A teacher at an all-girls Bronx charter school seduced a year-old student into sending naked photos of herself to him on Snapchat — and then molested her after class, officials said. Ryan Evans, 28, an English Language Arts teacher at the Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls Charter School, was arraigned Thursday on charges of using a child in a sexual performance, possessing child porn and endangering the welfare of a child. Evans asked the girl to send multiple photos and videos of herself over the past five months, between August and December, according to the criminal complaint against him. Werner Nel was a newly qualified teacher and when he realised that the girls had been looking for the images, he attempted to delete the search history on the school's computers. Mr Nel told a coworker at lunch time that day that he had found the girls googling images of "boys in their underwear" but failed to tell the other teacher about the severity of the images. More than half of teachers are aware of incidents of children sexting at their school, including primary-school pupils as young as seven, according to a study by one teaching union. A quarter of teachers who responded said they were aware of year-olds sexting, which involves using social media to share messages, pictures or videos of a sexual nature. In one typical incident, a girl pretended to fancy a boy and persuaded him to take a picture of his genitals, which she then shared with others. In another, a year 9 pupil, aged 13 or 14, took explicit selfies of herself for a boy at another school, but classmates got hold of the photo and shared it, thereby distributing child sexual images. Apart from exposing them to bullying when images are shared, it could make children targets for sex offenders in some cases.

Anna Patton, 22, an English teacher at Lamar High School, was arrested on Monday on charges of sexual battery with a student 16 to 17 years of age; disseminating obscene material to a person under 18 years, and criminal solicitation of a minor. According to arrest warrants from the Darlington County Sheriff's Office, between October 1, , and January 11, , Patton had sexual intercourse and oral sex with the teenage boy. In the wake of her arrest, the local school district has placed Patton on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case. She graduated from Francis Marion University, a small liberal arts college in South Carolina, in the spring of after writing her honors thesis on the use of Nazi propaganda in German schools during the Third Reich.
